We did some research study on Chelsea Royal hospital, its story begins over 300 years ago during the reign of King Charles the second, whose vision for a home for veteran soldiers was brought to life by Sir Christopher Wren.
In 1681, responding to the need to look after these soldiers, King Charles the second issued a Royal Warrant authorising the building of the Royal Hospital Chelsea to care for those ‘broken by age or war’. Sir Christopher Wren was commissioned to design and build this hospital.
The residents of the Royal Hospital, known the world over as Chelsea Pensioners, have all served as ordinary soldiers in the Armed Forces at some point in their lives.

And I found an institute of cancer research which is located in Old Brompton Road, they have a vision of a world where people can live their lives free of cancer as a life-threatening disease. The ICR strategy sets out how we aim to achieve this.

The National Archives UK

The films series combine puppetry, model-making and animation, and were created by young people in July 2020. Seeking to explore the history of public health and disease through documents from The National Archives, the young people created, animated, scripted and recorded their films at home as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

People

“Utopia” is a Greek name of More’s coining, from ou-topos (“no place”); a pun on EU-topos (“good place”) is suggested in a prefatory poem. More’s Utopia describes a pagan and communist city-state in which the institutions and policies are entirely governed by reason. Among the topics discussed by More in Utopia were penology, state-controlled education, religious pluralism, divorce, euthanasia, and women’s rights. The resulting demonstration of his learning, invention, and wit established his reputation as one of the foremost humanists. Soon translated into most European languages, Utopia became the ancestor of a new literary genre, the utopian romance.

Nell Gwynn

She became mistress to Charles Sackville, Lord Buckhurst in 1667; the next year she was introduced to the king and became his lover. Nell is said to have nicknamed the king ‘her Charles the Third’ in a nod to her previous relationships.

Did Nell Gwynn inspire Charles to create the Royal Hospital Chelsea for retired and injured soldiers.

Cadogan

I believe Charles Cadogan & family have had a great influence on the Chelsea area throughout history, including today, and the cadogan family have made many contributions. Over the years the Cadogan family has donated land and buildings around Chelsea for schools, social housing, churches, the town hall, fire station and a hospital.

Flower festival

At the Royal Hospital there is a huge annual flower art festival with many flower artists taking part, and Chelsea’s street traders also take part by decorating their shops with flowers.

Brompton Cemetery

The Grade I listed Brompton Cemetery is the well-loved resting place of over 200,000 people, a haven for wildlife and a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

Nestled among the spectacular trees and undergrowth are over 35,000 gravestones and monuments. The cemetery is alive with the amazing stories of all the people buried there since the 1830s, including some well-known names like Emmeline Pankhurst and John Snow.

Whether you want to learn about Brompton’s rich history, go for a stroll, grab a cup of coffee or just sit in quiet contemplation, Brompton Cemetery is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of West London.

In 2016, LSE Library’s Archive of Charles Booth’s Inquiry into the Life and Labour of the People in London (1886-1903) was inscribed into UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register. The archive comprises over 450 volumes of interviews, questionnaires, observations and statistical information. It documents the social and economic life of London, highlighting all of its contrasts, complexities and contradictions. The archive also takes us “behind the scenes” of the Inquiry itself, showing how Booth and his research team developed new methodologies and techniques in what is now recognised as a key milestone in the development of social research techniques.

Army National Museum

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Second World War veteran Tom Moore began working together to raise money for NHS charities. With the support of the public, he raised more than £38.9 million, but unfortunately he passed away in 2021 after contracting Coronavirus. So the museum is honoring him by displaying oil portraits of him.

When looked at the Army National Museum’s website, I saw that the museum was closed because of the pandemic. Children cannot enter the museum to learn knowledge, so the museum has set up a page on its website for children to play games and interact with parents and draw lots of interesting illustrations to help children learn about the Army National Museum at home.
